Building Cross-Laminated Timber

Building Cross-Laminated Timber
To support the growing use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) in the UK and Europe, leading connector manufacturer Simpson Strong-Tie has released an updated version of its ‘Connectors for CLT’ catalogue which with the support of our UK technical and sales team I produced.

The brief was simple, to create a host of new products featuring heavy duty angle brackets, hold-down connectors and structural screws inside a glossy new catalogue.
This edition represents a complete set of solutions for the assembly of CLT buildings, as well as steel and chemical mortar products designed specifically to connect the entire structure to concrete.

I used a number of techniques within the Adobe packages to complete this project start to finish. In-design being the mother ship for the main build of the Catalogue with all assets being brought in from Photoshop and illustrator.

The 68 page Catalogue is full of technical information including tables and best practises, how and where to use, with product and installation images throughout. The above images are vector files all created in Illustrator showing the products in their correct installations.
Sales Director, Jon Head explains: “We have drawn together a huge variety of products from across our European operations to produce a comprehensive range of performance tested connectors and fasteners to enable CLT constructions from floor to ceiling – the CLT designer need look nowhere else”.
I created various flat lay photographs of the products throughout the Catalogue and on its cover using a Canon750D and a handy orange monkie light box. With all retouching in Photoshop.

To Further market the project I built a short video highlighter of 'What is CLT' to accompany the marketing push on all Digital / social media platforms, Making good use of After Effects for the animation of the Cross-laminated timber and dynamic linking this to a Premier pro video files as attached below:

To further support the design and construction of CLT structures, Simpson Strong-Tie also has a team of engineers based at its manufacturing plant in Tamworth, offering technical support and assistance.

The new brochure can be downloaded from the Simpson Strong-Tie UK website (strongtie.co.uk).
